Prírodovedci, ktorí zmenili svet Francúzsky entomológ Fabre nám môže byť príkladom pracovitosti a jeho pozorovateľské umenie vzorom. Fabrovo meno poznajú nielen odborníci - entomológovia, ale aj široká kultúrna verejnosť. Fabre bol ale aj básnik a spisovateľ, člen Académie Française a Legion of Honor. Je považovaný za priekopníka výskumu chovania (etológia) a ekofyziológie.Fabre pôsobil ako profesor na Korzike a v Avignone. Bol vynikajúcim entomológom, no nie iba zberateľom, ale aj pozorovateľom života hmyzu, pavúkov a škorpiónov. Skúmal životné pochody a správanie blanokrídlovcov, najmä samotárskych včiel a hrabaviek. Robil pokusy s hrobárikmi, aby zistil, akým spôsobom odstraňujú mŕtvolky drobných zvierat. Fabre bol aj významným objaviteľom - prvý spozoroval dimorfizmus lariev, študoval aj hypermetamorfózu. Veľkú pozornosť venoval skúmaniu hmyzích inštinktov. Svoje podrobné pozorovanie pútavo popísal a výsledky dlhoročnej práce publikoval v štrnásťzväzkovom diele Souvenirs entomologiques (Entomologické spomienky), ktoré vychádzalo v rokoch 1879 - 1907. "Spomienky" mali podobný osud ako Brehmov Život zvierat. Dočkali sa mnohých vydaní, prekladov, prepracovaných i skrátených vydaní a to dokonca aj v češtine.
